Can I Sell Content Packs for BY-GEN?
Short Answer
Yes, of course you can.
However, if you are new to the Blender creator ecosystem, then it would be appropriate to understand how licensing tends to work in this space.
What You Need to Know
The BY-GEN addon itself is associated with the GPL license, taking its license from Blender. This means the code for BY-GEN can be modified and redistributed, so long as it stays free to access and modify.
Artistic content (models, textures, node trees, etc.) that are separate and simply used by the addon do not automatically adopt the GPL license. Therefore, you can make and sell this content on your own terms.
However, please keep in mind that neither myself, nor anyone else who works on the BY-GEN addon, are responsible for providing support for your content packs.
I personally recommend that you focus on making asset libraries that just happen to be compatible with BY-GEN, in case of future compatibility issues, as the Blender API is subject to rapid change.
Important:
If you make and sell a content pack to a customer, then you are responsible for providing support for that package.
If you create and sell a package in such a way that it relies on us to make additional features specifically for you, then that is your fault, your failure, and your responsibility to fix.
We do not work for you. We will not sell your packages for you.
With that in mind, I recommend you have previous experience with maintaining digital products and customer support, prior to selling packs specifically for BY-GEN.
Again, my recommendation is to create asset libraries which the user can add to Blender's asset browser on their own, that are also made compatible with BY-GEN. Therefore, if compatibility issues occurred with BY-GEN, the user would still have a simple way of accessing the content.
